Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine is a specialized area of radiology that uses very small amounts of radioactive materials (given either orally or intravenously) to examine an organ's structure and metabolic function, and is used to:
- Analyze blood flow and function of the heart
- Analyze kidney function
- Determine the presence or spread of cancer
- Evaluate bones for fracture, infection, arthritis or tumors
- Identify bowel bleeding
- Identify gallbladder blockage
- Locate the presence of infections
- Measure thyroid function
- Scan lungs for respiratory and blood flow issues
