Andy Chung, M.D., FACS, Otolaryngology, offers a variety of ENT services locally.
Andy Chung, M.D., FACS, an otolaryngologist specializing in ear, nose and throat (ENT) conditions, has expanded his practice to offer a relatively new treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Since opening his Corsicana practice in 2022, Dr. Chung has provided care to patients with a variety of ENT issues, ranging from nasal polyps to ear infections and hearing loss. Beyond the conventional scope of ENT treatments and procedures, Dr. Chung also provides a treatment for individuals diagnosed with OSA who currently rely on Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) therapy.
The FDA-approved, implantable device designed to replace traditional CPAP machines, works by applying gentle stimulation to key airway muscles during sleep. This eliminates the need for CPAP machines, masks and hoses, thereby offering a more comfortable alternative.
The device is placed under the skin of the neck and chest during an outpatient procedure. Patients typically require only non-prescription pain medications after the procedure and can resume most non-strenuous activity within a few days. The patient uses a remote control to turn the device on before bed and then goes to sleep. Adjustments are made during follow-up visits to adjust the settings as needed for each patient.
Ideal candidates for implantable sleep apnea treatment include those who have a previous diagnosis for moderate to severe sleep apnea, age 18 or older, not classified as obese, and who have not had consistent beneficial results from CPAP therapy. The procedure is covered by most commercial insurance plans.
